If you have asbestos waste on your premises — whether from a recent survey, a previous removal, or a renovation — you have a legal obligation to dispose of it correctly. Asbestos is classified as hazardous waste under UK law, and placing it in a general skip is a criminal offence resulting in unlimited fines and prosecution.
What Counts as Asbestos Waste?
Any material containing asbestos fibres must be treated as hazardous waste once removed. Common types we collect include AIB offcuts, asbestos cement sheets, floor tiles and bitumen adhesive, pipe lagging, Artex debris, soffit boards and sealed asbestos sacks from previous removal works. All waste must be double-wrapped, clearly labelled, and accompanied by correct documentation before leaving site.
Why You Cannot Use a Skip
Standard skip hire companies are not licensed to accept asbestos waste. Placing asbestos in a general skip is illegal under the Hazardous Waste Regulations 2005 and the Environmental Protection Act 1990, with fines up to £50,000 per offence and potential criminal prosecution. Only an EA-registered hazardous waste carrier can legally transport asbestos on public roads.
How Our Collection Process Works
Once you contact us, we assess the waste volume and type, confirm packaging requirements, and schedule a licensed collection — often next working day. On arrival we issue a Hazardous Waste Consignment Note and transport all material to an EA-licensed disposal facility. You receive a copy of the consignment note: your legal proof of compliant disposal under the Hazardous Waste Regulations 2005. This document is essential for insurance, due diligence and any future regulatory enquiry.
Packaging Requirements Before Collection
Asbestos waste must be double-wrapped in sealed polythene, labelled "Danger — Contains Asbestos Fibres — Do Not Breathe Dust", stored separately from all other site waste, and kept in a secure area away from public access. If you are unsure about packaging, call us before handling — we would always rather advise first.
