What We Remove

All Asbestos-Containing Materials (ACMs) Covered

AIB Solutions are equipped and licenced to safely remove every type of asbestos-containing material found in UK properties built or refurbished before 2000.

Asbestos Insulating Board (AIB)

One of the highest risk ACMs. Commonly found as ceiling panels and tiles, partition panels, door linings and fire protection boards in both commercial and domestic buildings built between 1950-1985. Always requires an HSE licensed contractor for removal.

Asbestos Roofing & Soffit Boards

Corrugated cement roofing sheets, guttering, downpipes and soffit boards are widespread in older garages, outbuildings and industrial units. While lower risk when intact, any disturbance requires careful, licensed management.

Asbestos Floor Tiles

Vinyl floor tiles containing chrysotile asbestos were used extensively in commercial and domestic properties throughout the 1960s-80s. The associated bitumen adhesive may also contain asbestos.

Asbestos Pipe Lagging

Pipe lagging — particularly amosite and crocidolite-containing thermal insulation around heating pipes and boilers — is among the most hazardous ACM types. Licensed removal is legally mandatory.

Artex & Textured Coatings

Many Artex and textured ceiling coatings applied before 1990 contain chrysotile asbestos. While low-risk if undisturbed, sanding, drilling or renovation work releases fibres that must be managed by a specialist.

Asbestos Cement Products

Asbestos cement was used for gutters, downpipes, flue pipes, water tanks and cladding. Generally lower risk but requires careful removal and correct disposal as hazardous waste under EA regulations.

Licensing & Compliance

Fully Licensed, Regulated & Accountable

Choosing a contractor without an HSE licence to undertake licensed asbestos work is a criminal offence under UK law. AIB Solutions has been a full HSE licence holder since 2005.

HSE Asbestos Licence (CAR 2012)

AIB Solutions hold a current Health and Safety Executive (HSE) asbestos removal licence under Regulation 8 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012. This licence is mandatory for removing most types of asbestos-containing material, including AIB, sprayed coatings and pipe lagging. It is renewed every 3 years following a rigorous assessment by the HSE of our systems, training and safety record.

Environment Agency — Waste Carrier Registration

All asbestos waste is classified as hazardous waste under the Hazardous Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2005. AIB Solutions are registered with the Environment Agency as a licensed hazardous waste carrier and transfer station permit holder.. Every removal concludes with correctly completed and issued consignment notes — giving you a clear, auditable paper trail.

HSE Statutory Notification (Reg. 9)

For all licensed asbestos work, we submit a formal notification to the HSE at least 14 days before work begins. This ensures the enforcing authority has sight of all planned works and that your project is protected from legal challenge.

CAR 2012 — Full Regulatory Compliance

From initial surveying and risk assessment through to four-stage clearance procedures and post-removal air monitoring, every AIB Solutions project is managed in strict accordance with the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, HSE Guidance Note HSG247 and HSG 210, as well as allrelevant Approved Codes of Practice (ACoPs).

FAQ

Common Questions About Asbestos Removal

Can't find the answer you need? Contact our team directly →

Do I need a licensed contractor to remove asbestos?

In most cases, yes. The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 makes it a legal requirement to use an HSE-licensed contractor for the removal of notifiable licensed work — which includes asbestos insulating board, pipe lagging, sprayed coatings and certain other ACMs. Unlicensed removal of these materials is a criminal offence. AIB Solutions hold a current HSE asbestos licence, ensuring your project is fully lawful and protected.

How much does asbestos removal cost in the UK?

Costs vary based on the type of ACM, the quantity, the access required and the location. Domestic removals (e.g. a single Artex ceiling or soffit board) can start from a few hundred pounds. Large commercial or industrial strip-outs are priced individually following a site survey. AIB Solutions provide free, no-obligation surveys and fully transparent, itemised quotations. Read our full guide to asbestos removal costs →

How long does asbestos removal take?

A small domestic removal — such as garage roof sheets, a soffit board or a single ceiling — typically takes half a day to one full day. Larger commercial or industrial projects can span several days to a few weeks depending on scope. AIB Solutions will agree a clear, realistic timeline as part of your written removal plan before any work begins.

Is it safe to stay in my home during asbestos removal?

For licenced asbestos removal work, the area must be sealed with a negative-pressure enclosure and air monitoring carried out throughout. In many cases occupants can remain in other parts of the property, but this depends on the location of the works and the type of material. AIB Solutions will advise you clearly on occupancy during your site survey and in your removal plan.

What qualifications should an asbestos removal company have?

To undertake work on any asbestos containing material (ACM), an HSE requirement is that all staff must be trained and competent for the type of ACM they will be working on. If the work category is licensed, the company must hold a valid and current HSE asbestos removal licence. In order to transport the waste, the company must also be an Environment Agency registered waste carrier. Learn more in our qualifications guide →

What happens to asbestos waste after removal?

All removed ACMs are classified as hazardous waste under UK legislation. AIB Solutions double-wrap and seal all waste in clearly labelled, UN-approved asbestos waste sacks, transport it in segregated waste compartments and deposit it only at licensed hazardous waste disposal sites. You receive fully completed consignment notes for your records. Find out more about our asbestos waste collection service →
